The Applied Technology assessment measures a person’s skill in using the basic
principles of mechanics, electricity, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics to solve
problems with machines, equipment, and structures found in the workplace. Test
takers must identify relevant aspects of problems, analyze and order those
aspects, and apply existing materials or methods to new situations. Reasoning is
more important to this assessment than mathematics, so any calculations required
can be done easily without a calculator.
The assessment contains 32 multiple-choice questions at four levels of complexity
with Level 6 being the most complex. Although Level 3 is the least complex, it
still assesses a level of applied technology skill well above no skill at all.
The levels build on each other by incorporating the skills assessed at the
preceding levels.
