Dual Enrollment FAQ - Central Virginia Community College

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Dual Enrollment

The dual enrollment program gives the student the opportunity to get a head start on college credit while still in high school.

It allows the student to earn college credit toward a postsecondary diploma, certificate, or degree at a Virginia public institution that will also count as credit toward a high school diploma.

What Are The Advantages

High school and college credit is earned at the same time. Completing dual enrollment courses while in high school can shorten the time required to earn a college degree.

Dual enrollment courses with an earned grade of "C" or higher will transfer to most 4-year colleges/universities.

Students take the courses at their own high school, thereby saving time and money.

Am I Eligible

Students who meet course prerequisites and college application requirements and are approved by their high school guidance counselor are eligible.

What Classes Are Offered

Courses vary among high schools but typically include the following: biology, English, and math. The technical centers offer a greater variety of classes. Please check with your guidance counselor for the courses offered at your school.
