Comprehensive Standards
Library and Other Learning Resources
| Comprehensive Standard #25: The institution provides facilities, services, and other
learning/information resources that are appropriate to support its teaching, research,
and service mission. |
Offsite Committee Concern: Review library support for off-campus sites.
Focused Response: The Library's support for the College's off-campus centers is,
at present, mostly in the form of the Library's website. From the website
http://www.cvcc.vccs.edu/Library/InformationReference.asp
one can access the Library's catalog, a large number of databases that are
available through the VCCS, VIVA, or for which the Library has obtained
subscriptions. When searching for magazine articles, there is a link that can
search for all the full-text on-line journal titles available through these
databases. To assist students, there is a link to instructions for setting up
off-campus access to these databases.
To obtain personal assistance, students may call or e-mail the Library. In
addition, there is an interactive on-line reference service that the VCCS
libraries maintain to assist students. Known as "LRC Live" this service is
expanding its hours of operation. The Altavista center has a memorandum of
understanding with the local public library to circulate reserve materials.
Physical delivery of Library materials is now available to students in
distance learning and off-site courses. There are
off-campus site procedures and request form
and distance learning request form and procedures
which can be used to request library materials. Student request an item
via either e-mail/web form or by filling out a request form at the
off-campus center. When the request is received at the Library our staff
checks out the material to the student. The material(s) is then delivered
to the site on a set schedule via a courier.
