Ben Coates Receives Scholarship

CVCC student, Ben Coates, has received a scholarship awarded by the VA Chapter of the national organization AHEAD (The Association on Higher Education and Disability). He is one of four students to receive their yearly scholarship.
Ben is working toward an Associate’s degree in Life Sciences and currently has a 4.0 GPA. After he graduates from CVCC, he plans to transfer to Virginia Tech to study Animal Science, with a minor in Wildlife Biology and Conservation.
Ben’s long-term goal is to obtain a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Virginia-Maryland Regional College. Upon graduation, he plans to return to Central Virginia and start a practice for domestic and agricultural animals. This summer he plans to complete an internship with a local veterinarian.
Ben is a native of Concord. His non-collegiate endeavors include being an Eagle Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and a member of the National Honor Society of Boy Scouts. He is an active member and youth leader at Rustburg United Methodist Church. Ben is also a real history buff, serving as both a Confederate and a Union soldier in area reenactments of the Civil War.
