CVCC Begins Participation in Federal Student Loans
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/05/31/11 - As of July 1, 2011, Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) will be participating in Federal Direct Stafford and Parent PLUS loans. These funds are lent directly to students for undergraduate and graduate studies. The loans come directly from the U.S. Department of Education under the Direct Loan program with funds borrowed from the U.S. Treasury.
There are two types of Stafford loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. The Subsidized Stafford loan is a need-based loan made available depending on income and dependency status. The Unsubsidized Stafford loan is available regardless of income or dependency status.
The Federal PLUS Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students) is designed to help parents pay for their childs education. With a credit check required, parents may borrow up to the entire cost of college attendance minus other financial aid awarded.
