CVCC Celebrates Black History with Gospel and Touring Musical Group, Jabali Afrika

 

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/1/13/11 – Central Virginia Community College will celebrate Black History Month with a gospel festival and a concert by Jabali Afrika, a touring musical quartet originally from Kenya.

 

To support the community and in honor of Black History Month, a Gospel Festival will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the CVCC Student Center. The Bolling Hill Baptist Church Men’s Choir and Silver Grove Baptist Church Gospel Choir will participate in this event sponsored by CVCC’s Black Student Alliance.  Refreshments will be served.

 

On Wednesday, February 23, Jabali Afrika will perform from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the CVCC Student Center, sponsored by the Student Government Association.  The award-winning band, originally from Kenya, East Africa, has toured worldwide at music festivals and college concerts.  Their music combines African spirituals and rock-reggae with their trademark powerful percussion and big vocal harmonies.  The original compositions and African rhythms come alive with a variety of instruments, traditional tribal costumes, talented dancing and choreography.  Jabali means, “rock” in Kiswahili, Kenya’s national language.

 

The general public is welcome to attend these Black History Month events, all held in the CVCC Student Center, on the specified dates.
