CVCC Dental Hygiene Club Wins VCCS Award
Lynchburg, Va. / Central Virginia Community College/Media Release/11/17/10The CVCC Dental Hygiene Club received a first place award at the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Student Leadership Conference.
The Student Activities Coordinator at each Virginia community college nominated a student project for the award, and each college was given the opportunity to vote for one Team Innovation project at the conference.
The CVCC Dental Hygiene Club won the Team Innovation Award for their project, the March for Hannah. The event took place on April 3, at the Lynchburg College Outdoor Track, and raised money for six-year old Hannah Johnson, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2009.
Hannahs mother, Susanne Johnson, had been a student in the Dental Hygiene program but had to withdraw in order to care for her daughter. She has now been able to return to the program. The March for Hannah project raised money to help the family and to raise community awareness of leukemia and other types of cancer.
CVCC Interim President, Dr. Bambara, will be given a $200 check to present to the club.
