Photographic Artist Derrick Helm to Exhibit at Merritt Hall

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/08/30/10—Derrick Helm, a fine arts photographer who specializes in the creative use of 35mm film and non-traditional cameras, will have an exhibition of his work during September and October in the Merritt Hall Gallery at Central Virginia Community College. The exhibition, entitled “Pieces of Me,” features work recorded on various films, including the experimental use of expired film for its interesting effects and color changes.

Helm, who is from Madison Heights, has been an avid photographer for eleven years. His subjects range from landscapes to abstract images. His wide variety of unusual cameras include a Diana F+ Lomo, Fujifilm NATURA CLASSICA, Russian-made Smena 8M, Canon T50, KiseKae 35mm point-and-shoot, to name just a few.

The work will hang from September 10 until October 31, with an opening reception to be held on Friday, September 10, from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. The photographer invites the public to “come out and see a different view of life!”
