Dominick Launi Appointed CVCC Culinary Arts Director
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Dominick Launi has been appointed Director of the CVCC Culinary Arts program. A graduate of Florida International University with a degree in Hospitality Management, Dominick has been in the food service industry since 1980. He owned his own restaurant and catering business in Maryland for eight years and later worked for 22 years with Sysco Foodservices as a sales representative, a district manager, and a vice-president.
Familiar with Central Virginia from his time as a manager with Sysco, Dominick explains that there is a need for skilled food service workers and managers in this area, not only in restaurants, but in hotels, health care facilities, hospitals, colleges, country clubs, and more. He is excited about the CVCC program and wants the Culinary Arts students to attain a high level of skill and discipline and to develop a passion for the industry. He explains that graduating students can find work with the two-year degree or go on to a four-year program at another institution.
Dominick is also enthusiastic about being at CVCC. Community College led me down a great path, he explains. His own career began at a community college where small classes and faculty mentoring prepared him to continue his own education in the field. In turn, he wants to support his Culinary Arts students in achieving their goals.
Dominicks wife, Debbie, is an accountant in Charlottesville, and he has two grown children, a son who teaches school in Norfolk and a daughter who has a masters degree in theology and youth ministry.
