Photography Exhibition “Venice of the North” on Display at Merritt Hall

 

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/01/06/10—“Venice of the North,” an exhibition of photographs of Stockholm, Sweden, will be on view at the Merritt Hall Gallery of Central Virginia Community College from January 8 through the month of February. The opening reception will be held on Friday, January 15, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.  


The images, both color and black and white, are the work of Melinda Wheeler, a graduate of the CVCC Photography Department. The photographs were taken during a trip she made to Stockholm  in July 2009. The photographer captures the importance of the seas and lakes as they dominate daily life in the city and its many surroundings islands. From Gamla Stan, the oldest part of Stockhom, with its dignified architecture, to the island of Birka and its wild Viking past, Wheeler has revealed the beauty of a hearty, soulful people with a unique cultural past.
