David Vaughan named Director of Amherst Center
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/12/11/08 David H. Vaughan has been named the Director of the CVCC Amherst Center, the newest offsite facility for Central Virginia Community College. The center, located at 200 Richmond Highway, Mountain View Plaza, in Amherst, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 15 and will open its doors to students Monday, January 5.
The CVCC Amherst Center will offer a broad spectrum of day and evening programs in credit and non-credit modes and specialized training in workforce development for business and industry. Delivery systems include traditional classroom instruction as well as Web-based/Internet courses, compressed video, computer assisted programs, and print-based courses.
Vaughan, who has two masters degrees, an M.S. in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee and a M.Ad. in Industrial Management from Lynchburg College, held a supervisory position at McLeod Memorial Hospital in Florence, South Carolina, in the 70s, and has held managerial positions at C.B. Fleet Company in Lynchburg since 1979, most recently serving as Director of U.S. Quality and Director of Special Quality Projects.
A microbiologist, he has been an adjunct instructor at Central Virginia Community College for twelve semesters, teaching courses in biology and quality control. Originally from Kentucky, he and his wife Carol have lived in the Central Virginia area for nearly 30 years, and have two grown children.
Central Virginia Community College is an accessible, comprehensive, public, two-year, higher education institution that provides affordable, quality learning opportunities and offers transfer, applied science, certificate, and diploma programs. The College addresses the training needs of business, industry, and government in the area and provides support services for education, technology infrastructure, and workforce development.
