CVCC Workforce Development Director to be Panelist at Nuclear Energy Summit
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/9/30/08 Stan Shoun, Director of Workforce Development at Central Virginia Community College has been invited to be a panelist for the Education/Workforce Development discussion at the upcoming Nuclear Energy Summit, organized by the Departments of Commerce and Energy.
The summit will be held on October 8, in Washington, D.C., at the Department of Commerce headquarters. Government, industry, and other involved participants will discuss strategies for advancing the national nuclear competitiveness in both the United States and abroad. Scheduled speakers include Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, NRC Chariman Dale Klein, and Admiral Skip Bowman from the Nuclear Energy Institute.
Shoun, a retired military officer with a background in engineering and industry, came to CVCC in 2000 as the Dean of Science, Math, and Engineering, and became the Colleges Vice President of Workforce Development in 2002. Shoun has been instrumental in promoting many ground-breaking programs and forming partnerships with area industry, in addition to bringing in significant grants to the College, all of which have increasingly allowed CVCC to offer important and innovative educational opportunities to meet the workforce needs of the nuclear industry.
