Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/6/18/08 –AREVA NP, Inc. has received the Regional Business and Industry Partnership Community College Award from the Virginia Department of Education. The company was nominated for the award by Central Virginia Community College. AREVA’s partnership with CVCC and the University of Virginia, in cooperation with Region 2000 businesses, has created an off-site undergraduate engineering program that is the only one of its kind in the nation.

Thirteen regional companies are sponsoring 72 students by providing them with full or part tuition, books and fees, co-ops, internships, mentoring, and career opportunities. Other aspects of the program include a “Women in Engineering Camp” for middle school students and an “Advanced Engineering Camp” for high school students.
The award was presented at the Creating Excellence awards program and luncheon on June 16, in Richmond, Virginia. Three partnership awards were presented in each of three geographic areas of the state, and AREVA won for the west central region. The special guest and speaker for the ceremony was Thomas R.
