Author Thomas Turner to do Book Signing at CVCC

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC alumnus and IT staffer Thomas Turner will appear at the College’s Barnes and Noble Book Store to sign his recently published anthology of poetry and prose entitled, “What are Words For?”, and his previously issued novel, “Blood on the Badge”. The event will take place on Monday, April 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Though new to the stage of published writers, Turner has put his most private thoughts to paper through pen since the early age of ten. His collection of poems and prose span 30 years of life experiences and personal reflection. The anthology offers a mélange that includes interpretation and insight on love, hate, confusion, spiritualism, and dreams among dozens of other themes.

The author keeps the reader in a state of consternation from one selection to the next. Splendid and cheery rhymes are frequently followed by deep or dark verse at the turn of a page. Various writing styles are presented randomly as well, effectively separating and bringing definition to each entry, and elevating the anticipation of the reader.

“Blood On The Badge” is a detective story based in New York City. Though the story stems from the writer’s imagination, Turner delivers an all-too-real message on the affects of child abuse, while attempting to look deep into the psyche of serial killers.

Turner has expressed having a passion to write since preadolescence. “There is nothing I enjoy more,” he says. “When I arrive home from work, the first thing I want to do is write. Often that means going at it until well into the late night hours.”

The Madison Heights native admits, convincingly, that he is a little uneasy with all of the attention his books have received on Campus, but has been quite pleased that his poems and short essays have been meaningful to others.

Both books are currently available in the CVCC Barnes and Noble book store.
