CVCC February Exhibit features Paintings and Photographs of Mexico
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Imagining Mexico, an exhibition of paintings, photographs, collages, and drawings inspired by various locations in Mexico, will be on exhibit at the Merritt Hall Gallery of Central Virginia Community College through the month of February. An opening reception will be held on Friday, February 8, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
The exhibition features paintings by Kelly Mattox and Patsy Wilkerson, photographs and drawings by Doni Guggenheimer, and photographs by Sammy Allen, Kathy Cudlin, Jill Markwood, Ginny Schmidt, and Melinda Wheeler. The images all originate in various locations in Mexico, including San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, the Riviera Maya region (Playa del Carmen, and Tulum), Oaxaca, Tijuana, and Mexico City.
The works range in size from large-scale paintings of San Miguel by Kelly Mattox to very small and intimate color and black and white images by some of the participating photographers. All the artists have captured the light, color, and mystery of the various regions, and the images include Day of the Dead ceremonies in San Miguel, portraits and street photography of the Mexican people, explorations of architecture, and a reverence and enthusiasm for the beauty of the people, the towns, the customs, and the countryside.
The public is invited to attend the reception, meet the artists, and enjoy sharing the warmth, excitement, and beauty of these images of Mexico. The reception at Merritt Hall on Friday, February 8, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. is free and open to the public. All works are for sale.
