CVCC Hosts Student Art Show

 

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC’s monthly art series for April features 85 entries from art students attending the College. The annual Student Art Show has participants competing for cash prizes in four categories: painting, drawing, three-dimensional art, and photography. Artworks awarded first prize are purchased by CVCC. Prizes were awarded Friday, April 6, at a reception held for the artists. The exhibition is currently on display in the College’s Merritt Hall and will remain open to the public throughout the month.

 

This year’s winners include:

 

Painting

            1^st place:         Melanie Carrier; A Woman’s Best Friend (acrylic)

            2^nd place:       Rebekah Malloy; Puppy Play (acrylic)

            3^rd place:        Christian Funderburk; Linen Box Fell Back (acrylic)

 

Drawing

            1^st place:         Kyle Scheren; The 300 S. Princeton (picante)

            2^nd place:        Tina Robertson; The Beauty of Fluid Abstract (pencil)

            3^rd place:         Sunny Andrews; Rosebud (charcoal)

 

Three-Dimensional

            1^st place:          Darlene Graves; Swimming Free (clay)

            2^nd place:        Jennifer Golston; Pear (clay)

            3^rd place:         Terri Miller; Meeting of Kindred Spirits (wheel thrown)

 

Photography

            1^st place:          Minna Kim; Celine Laughing (b/w kc)

            2^nd place:        Daniel Johnston; Eye (silver gelatin)

            3^rd place:         Samantha Jennings; Three Flowers (pinhole)

 

The Student Art Show is sponsored by CVCC’s Cultural and International Events Committee and is being presented by Jill Markwood, Jim Patterson, and Donna Hobbs. Judges for the competition portion of the exhibition included David Eakin (painting, drawing), President of the Lynchburg Art Club; Lisa Pitcher (photography), President of Blue Ridge Photographic Art Society (BRPAS); and May Carter (three-dimensional), Director of Arts Education, Academy of Fine Arts.
