Irish Dreams opens at CVCC

February Art Exhibit Features Photographs from the Province of Munster

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC, in its continuing series of monthly art exhibits, announces the opening of “Irish Dreams – Photographs from the Ancient Irish Province of Munster.”  The show features a compilation of photographs from two couples, Cloyde Wiley, III, and Barbara Hartley along with David and Wanda McGee, during a trip to southwestern Ireland in May, 2006.  “Irish Dreams” opens Friday, February 2, with a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Merritt Hall on the CVCC Main Campus in Lynchburg and will run throughout the month.  The reception is open to the public free of charge.

The images in “Irish Dreams” reveal a land and a people in which the ancient past and the present live side-by-side.  The subjects include pre-historic sites such as the Poulnabrone dolmen along with early Christian sites like the Rock of Cashel and Dysert O’Dea.  Some of the numerous castles that dot the Irish countryside—Blarney, Leamaneh, and Dunguaire—are also displayed.

Many of the photographs focus on the scenic Irish landscape with its many beautiful and wild views.  Featured prominently in the exhibit are images from the southwestern coast of Ireland—the rugged Dingle and Beara Peninsulas, the Aran Isles, the lakes of Killarney region, Great Blasket Island (where the inhabitants were forced to abandon fifty years ago), and the Burren with its moonscape-like features.
