CVCC to Host Super Saturday Financial Aid Clinic
Lynchburg, Va. /Media Release/ -- Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) has been selected as the regional host for Super Saturday, an annual one-day event to help college-bound students complete their financial aid application forms. The program will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Colleges Lynchburg campus in Merritt Hall. It is free and open to the public for students of all grades along with their parents/guardians.
Super Saturday is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) and is run simultaneously at 12 venues throughout the Commonwealth. Each site will conduct a financial aid workshop that explains the federal and state financial aid process which will consist of a PowerPoint presentation, open discussion, and a question and answer session. In addition, computers will be available for attendees to complete financial aid applications. Financial aid professionals will be available to assist families with completing their 2006-2007 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line. Once the student leaves the event, they will have initiated the financial aid process for any school they are interested in attending and will have met the priority filing date for most Virginia colleges.
Deborah Marshall, Director of Financial Aid for CVCC, suggests that parents and students interested in applying for financial assistance come to the event with all the necessary documents. A list of information required to complete the forms can be found on-line at www.vasfaa.org or by contacting CVCCs Department of Financial Aid at (434) 832-7814.
CVCC will provide refreshments for those in attendance and will conduct a drawing for a $100 book scholarship. Parents and students may arrive at any time during the five-hour program.
VASFAA is an organization of individuals who administer financial aid or are otherwise active in a financial aid-related profession. Their mission is to maintain an organization that promotes the professional growth and collaboration of their members in order to serve fairly the needs of students, families, and institutions in matters related to financial and informational resources that support postsecondary education goals.
