CVCC to Host Student Photography Exhibit
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Photographs from eight students previously enrolled in CVCC’s class on Advanced Photographic Printing (APP) will be on exhibit October 3 to October 31 in Merritt Hall at the College’s campus in Lynchburg. The “Group 246 Exhibit” is directed by Cloyde W. Wiley, III, a photography professor and noted local artist. Wiley and many of the featured artists will be present at a reception held at the exhibition site on Friday, October 13, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. The reception is open and free to the public. Liquid refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Advance Photographic Printing, as a course, serves a dual purpose – examining advanced printing techniques and allowing each student to develop an individual style of printing. Wiley requires students to produce exhibition quality, archival photographic prints and develop a ten to fifteen print exhibition on a subject that appeals to the individual artist.
Each artist participating in the “Group 246 Exhibit” had been required to produce a resume, an artist statement, and biography as APP students. They were also responsible for finding exhibit space, scheduling an exhibition, creating publicity vehicles to promote the exhibit, and scheduling and hosting a reception.
This year’s contributors to the “Group 246 Exhibit” include:
Melody Cook; The Memory Remains
Joshua Gilland; Media Graffiti; Old Advertisements
Michael Keen; Fascination with Water
Cynthia Ritchey; Country Stores of Southside Virginia
